Size Guide

We deal in vintage and archive pieces from Italian, French, Japanese and Belgian houses — the size on the label rarely tells the whole story. Use the charts below to convert between systems, and always check the garment measurements listed on each product page. Measurements beat labels, every time.

How We Label Sizes

Every listing shows a size the way it reads best for that piece. Here is how to decode them:

Reading Vintage Labels

Label vocabulary: Tg. / Taglia = Italian size · Taille = French size · Größe = German size. What most platforms display as “EU size” is the German scale. Pieces from the ’80s–’00s typically run one to two sizes smaller than the same number today. Since our letter sizes are converted directly from the label, always double-check the garment measurements listed on the product page before ordering.

Womenswear

tops, dresses, knitwear & outerwear

French sizes are also used in Belgium, Spain and Portugal; German sizes in Austria, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Switzerland; UK sizes in Australia and New Zealand. Letter sizes are approximate — every house draws the lines differently.

trousers, skirts & denim

Bottoms are listed in international letter sizes converted from the label (or by the labelled waist in inches). Vintage denim shrinks and stretches with wear — always compare against the garment measurements on the product page.

footwear

Italian designer shoes often run about half a size small compared to standard EU sizing. We list insole length in cm where possible — compare it against a shoe that fits you well.

Menswear

jackets, suits, knitwear & outerwear

Unlike womenswear, menswear shares one numeric scale across Italy, France and Germany. UK and US jacket sizes both equal the chest measurement in inches. Note that Japanese menswear (e.g. Yohji Yamamoto, Undercover, Julius) is cut smaller — a JP 3 ≈ M on the label often fits like a slim M or S.

trousers & denim

Italian tailored trousers are sometimes labelled with the jacket size instead (a “50” trouser ≈ W34). When in doubt, go by the waist measurement in cm on the product page.

A Note on Fit

There is no enforced sizing standard — every house cuts to its own block, and archive blocks were smaller than today’s. Treat every conversion above as a starting point with a margin of one size in either direction. Every listing includes flat garment measurements (pit-to-pit, length, waist and more where relevant). If you’re unsure, lay a similar piece you own and love flat, measure it, and compare.
