Authentication

We look at construction, joints, materials, hardware and fittings, manufacturer marks, labels, stamps and production details, and compare them with catalogues, archive material and documented examples. Where it helps, we consult specialists.

If a designer and manufacturer are documented or clearly identifiable, we name them. If a piece can only be linked to a designer by its design and construction, we describe it as attributed. Later editions and re-issues are labelled as such, together with the year of production where we know it.

Besides authenticity, we assess the condition of every piece and describe it honestly, including repairs, replaced parts and restorations. See our dimensions & condition guide.
