Same eye, different room

Same eye, different room

opening act. began as an archive for designer and vintage fashion. This is its second room: a curated collection of twentieth-century furniture, lighting and objects, running alongside our fashion shop.

It grew from the same instinct. Our interest has never stopped at clothing – what moves us is aesthetics and design as a whole, and that curiosity naturally carries over into other areas. So we started collecting furniture with the same eye for proportion, honest materials and pieces with a story.

Every piece is researched, authenticated and described exactly as it is. We favour original condition and honest patina, and only take on what we would gladly live with ourselves.

NEW ARRIVALS

What we collect

What we collect

Our selection covers about a hundred years of furniture design, from early tubular steel pieces of the Bauhaus era to the bolder shapes of the 1980s. We buy what we would put in our own homes: well built, well designed and made from good materials.

Much of it comes from Scandinavian mid-century design, with its teak, rosewood and papercord. Next to that we look for Italian post-war design, especially lighting, for French modernism and for the plastics and colours of the Space Age. Viennese modernism has a place too, from Thonet bentwood to Carl Auböck and Johannes Spalt.

The designers we search for include Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Marcel Breuer, Børge Mogensen, Arne Vodder, Pierre Paulin, Joe Colombo, Gae Aulenti and Mario Bellini. We prefer original editions by the makers who first produced them, such as Fritz Hansen, E. Kold Christensen, Knoll, Herman Miller, Vitra, Cassina, Artifort, Thonet and Wittmann, and Artemide, Flos, Guzzini and Fog & Mørup for lighting.

We like materials that look better with age: saddle leather, chrome, solid teak and rosewood, travertine, glass and woven cane. New pieces come in regularly, and the ones that have sold stay in our archive. If you are looking for something specific, ask us and we will try to find it.
